A waterfall, a curry and a ferry

After a leisurely breakfast we drove to Hardy Falls; created by a glacier thousands of years ago, with steep sides of rock covered with trees and pretty wild flowers in yellows and reds dotted around. You could smell the clean, mountain air and listen to the stream flowing fast. This stream is well known for the salmon swimming up the river to spawn in the autumn. That must be quite a sight. As we approached the waterfall there were a couple drawing and painting. They were friends from their Thursday art club. What a spot to paint!
Later Paul took us to get the hire car. We've got quite a sporty little number! We picked up a huge order of Indian food which we took back to the house where friends were waiting for us. Had a lovely evening with great company and good food, but not a late night since we needed to be up early the next morning.
Gail and I felt like Thelma and Louise going off on our adventures Monday morning! We had a long drive to Tsawwassen to catch the ferry. The journey took us on the Coqualihaahalla Highway (also known as Highway thru Hell). It can be treacherous due to snow and poor visibility but we were lucky, although there was a tiny bit of snow and some rain. The ferry took us on a nice journey across the water, past some pretty islands and we even saw two whales playing! They were humpbacks apparently. They like to splash their fins at each other. It was amazing to see. The ferry took us to Schwarz Bay on Vancouver Island. I liked the look of Victoria, the main city, very much. After checking into the Embassy Inn - what a spot - we had a walk down to the harbour and got fab fish and chips at Red Fish Blue Fish. We watched the seaplanes coming into land whilst eating. The sun was shining and it was such a beautiful evening. There were lots of lovely trees, flowers and buildings around. Very picturesque. We were knackered and had a stroll back to the hotel for an early night since we had a boat to catch the next morning ... We were going whale watching!
